This documents the proceedings of consultation workshop on review of ADB’s Accountability Mechanism (AM) policy conducted on 1st October 2010, at Taj Samudra, Colombo, Sri Lanka. The key issues reviewed are: (1) Effectiveness and adequacy of the AM in the light of its historical perspectives, objectives and the principle (2) The approach to site visits required under the current AM which requires borrowing country permission to carry out (3) The relatively limited recourse to the compliance review phase (4) Level of independence of the AM (5) Accessibility of the mechanisms by affected people (6) Eligibility criteria for filing a complaint (7) Effectiveness in information dissemination and of level of awareness about AM (8) Broader impact that the AM has had on ADB’s approach to decision making and project selection etc.
