The Trauma and Global Health (TGH) Program in Sri Lanka has already produced manuals for mental health nurses and social workers that also form an introduction to mental health in Sri Lanka. This book documents information collected and studies carried out by the TGH Program aimed at filling the gaps. This book is also unique in that it brings together articles that highlight and explore particular fields about which there is little information that is easily available as yet. The book is meant to indicate directions for development in improving mental health and social care and to promote innovation and planning in this field. This book adds to the knowledge available for planners to work with, stimulate thinking on how best mental health and social care should develop in the future and contribute to meaningful and sustainable systems of care for rural people that in keeping with the traditions and cultures of all the people of Sri Lanka
