“Where an employee is absent on account of prolonged illness, the question arises as to the length of time for which it would be reasonable to permit such employee to be away from work after he has exhausted his leave entitlement. It is impossible to state any general position because it is a matter that has to be decided in each case on its merits and having regard to the particular facts. However, some of the factors an employer should have regard to are the nature of the illness, the possibility of it being cured, whether the employee is under medical treatment, the length of service, the post held by him and his leave record.” This includes about communicable diseases, daily wage, hotels, loans, retirement, unions etc.
