According to recent statistics, most young people across the globe, start having sex before the age of 20, relatively few of them use contraception and up to half of all new HIV/AIDS infections occur in people under the age of 25. ‘Youthnet’ is a five-year program funded by USAID to improve reproductive health and prevent HIV among young people. This paper is a summary of selected portions of the FOCUS on Young Adults end of program report, Advancing young Adult Reproductive Health: Actions for the Next Decade produced by Youthnet. The Chapter 1 includes some context about the lives of young people around the world and how profoundly gender and cultural norms affect their health. Chapter 2 summarizes the research process used in the FOCUS report. Chapters 3, 4 and 5 report the key research findings and programmatic efforts in three types of interventions: creating a supportive environment for young people, improving reproductive health knowledge, attitudes and behaviors, and increasing young people’s use of reproductive health services. Chapter 6 presents recommendations based on this research.
