In this article Vagisha Gunasekara and Nadhiya Najab argue that rehousing programs in the North often leave their intended beneficiaries in unimaginable debt, which can cause financial and psychological strain on families for years. They argue that while financial literacy campaigns can be important to help families understand the debt burden they are taking on with their house, these alone are not enough to prevent new home owners from being taken advantage of by predatory and easily accessible loan schemes.
