This book and a forthcoming companion volume are successors to the popular Monitoring and Evaluation of Agriculture and Rural Development Projects (1982) by Dennis J. Casley and Denis A. Lury. It gives a wealth of recent examples to explain in detail the concepts of monitoring and evaluation as they apply to agriculture and rural development projects. In the early 1980s, several international agricultural development agencies recognized the problems in formulating effective monitoring and evaluation systems. Since then progress has been made in developing effective systems and in reaching consensus regarding concepts and definitions for them. This book reflects this consensus and is a useful resource for regional and national training programs.
