The ozone layer, our shield against solar-radiation, is being destroyed at an ever-increasing rate. Gases used in spray cans, the manufacture of hamburger packaging, furniture foam and fluids in refrigerators are largely responsible. We are now putting these gases into the atmosphere six times faster than nature can remove them. This destruction of the ozone layer will result in increased skin cancer, cataracts and other diseases, the blighting of food crops and the harming of animals, the upsetting of the world,s climate and life-support systems. The hole in the sky is now the size of the United States and he depth of Mount Everest. Unless we act now, the hole could widen to cover the rest of the world, causing irreparable damage to our environment and ourselves.
