Legal assistance to the vulnerable groups of a country constitutes an important segment of the administration of justice. Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka (LAC) is the foremost amongst the various other institutions and organisations that cater to this important requirement, mainly due to its sustainability and stability. The special activities of the LAC are discussed at length in the report. Apart from the State Grants the activities and programmes were made possible by the support extended from time to time by international donors such as the USAID, Asia Foundation, UNDP, UNV, NRC, EU, SWISS and the IDLO. The Annual Report of the LAC illustrates the quantity and the quality of the services rendered by the LAC for legal empowerment of the people and the country and how the LAC has continuously strived to make the vision of LAC -“Equal Access to Justice” to become a reality. This report also evaluates the emphasis the Government has placed on legal aid by increasing the State Grant over the years. The report also discusses the role of the Justice Ministry, Litigation, Centres, Staff Strength, Infrastructure facilities etc. The report further contains statistical data and the finance report.
