This publication contains a collection of 30 speeches made or papers read by the author on different aspects of environmental concern, especially environmental protection and management in Sri Lanka during the period 1978-1993. These speeches and papers are being presented with two objectives, firstly, the period 1978-1993 during which environmental concerns came to be highlighted in a manner hitherto unprecedented in Sri Lanka. Secondly, these environmental concerns having their roots in poverty as well as in the process of accelerated development crystallized in to concrete action programmes of varied types and dimensions during the period under review.
