An important indicator of gender inequality is the incidence of violence against girls and women. This publication presents interviews that portray the trauma in the lives of females who have been victims of different forms of gender violence including rape, sexual harassment, ragging, and domestic violence.
The first section of the publication is presented in the form of narratives, drawn from the interviews with victims and activists regarding their experiences of the different manifestations of violence against women. This is followed by a format for questions and answers to obtain further details of experiences, issues and perceptions. The two approaches have been used to facilitate a wider dissemination of experiences and issues to readers who are able to expand the limited pool of activists against gender-based violence in Sri Lanka.
